Speech intelligibility for First Responders

Location of Research: Remote

How well can first responders (fire fighters, emergency medical, police) understand radio communications? We are building a testbed, in cooperation with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), for evaluating the intelligibility of speech transmitted via radio channels. The project implements an automated system that estimates speech intelligibility, as part of our voice quality testbed.
