Integrated Nanophotonic Circuits for Optical Modulators and Switches

This project involves the study on a new type of optic modulator and switch for integrated optics based on phase-controllable coherent perfect loss from a resonant cavity. Students are expect to learn the temporal coupled-mode theory for investigating a simple set of equations that describe the device operation, and finite-difference time-domain simulations to verify these equations. Students are also expected to learn the fundamental principles of integrated photonic circuits.
