FastBall is an experimental multiplayer mobile augmented reality basketball shooting game, built with Unity, Google ARCore, and Google Cloud Anchors. It currently supports two co-located players, who compete in shooting virtual basketballs at a virtual hoop located in the physical environment. Using Cloud Anchors, Unity UNet networking, and ARCore tracking and environment modeling, we achieve a compelling two-player experience, with the players’ virtual balls interacting with each other and with physical surfaces in the same augmented environment. This summer, we would like to extend this work to support more players, both co-located and remote, and additional interactions. We are looking for a student with a strong command of the Unity 3D development environment, a willingness to learn ARCore, and an interest in exploring different architectures for efficient networked interaction.
